Delta Police arrest arms supplier Ahmed Ibrahim and accomplice Jamila Abubakar, seizing ammunition and uncovering links to kidnapping and murder cases.

DeltaArmsBust marks a major breakthrough in the fight against illicit arms trafficking and kidnapping as the Delta State Police Command arrested a notorious arms supplier and a kidnap kingpin in a coordinated intelligence-led operation.

A statement released on Saturday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed that the arrests were made following credible intelligence from the Force Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU), Abuja. The operation was executed by operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) led by ASP Julius Robinson.

Female Suspect Arrested in Effurun

The operation began with the arrest of a female suspect, Jamila Abubakar, at Conoil Filling Station, Warri–Patani Road, Effurun.

Her arrest provided a crucial lead that exposed a major illegal arms supply network operated by Ahmed Ibrahim, a 31-year-old arms dealer known for supplying weapons to insurgent groups in northern Nigeria.

Follow-Up Operation and Recovery

Building on the intelligence obtained from Jamila’s arrest, the operatives stormed the Niger-Cat area of Warri, where they successfully apprehended Ahmed Ibrahim of Ekpan, Uvwie Local Government Area, at about 7:25 a.m. on October 22, 2025.

A search of his belongings led to the recovery of:

  • 115 rounds of 7.63mm AK-47 live ammunition
  • 220 rounds of SMG rifle ammunition
  • 32 live cartridges

Links to Kidnapping and Murder

Preliminary investigations revealed that Ahmed Ibrahim is a key supplier of weapons to bandit groups in the North and has long been on the Command’s watch list for his involvement in high-profile kidnapping and armed robbery operations.

He is also linked to the kidnap and murder of Ogheneovo Onemu, a female victim abducted on May 17, 2024, at Ajaokuta Community, Ughelli North LGA, who was killed despite a ₦4 million ransom payment.

Commissioner of Police Commends Operatives

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, described the breakthrough as another testament to the Command’s unwavering commitment to stemming the flow of illegal arms, dismantling criminal syndicates, and bringing offenders to justice.

He reaffirmed the Command’s determination to identify and neutralize all networks involved in illicit weapons across the state.

The CP also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information to aid the fight against crime.

He assured the public that the Command will sustain its momentum against criminal elements and remain resolute in protecting the lives and property of all law-abiding citizens.

The Nigeria Police Command in Benue State has dismissed reports alleging that Mobile Police personnel were withdrawn from Ayilamo community in Logo Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Orchia Aondogwu, the report was described as unfounded and baseless. He stated that Mobile Police personnel remained deployed in Ayilamo alongside the Divisional Police team and other tactical units.

Aondogwu also said additional military personnel had been deployed to reinforce security in the area, urging the public to disregard the report.

However, the traditional ruler of Ayilamo, Mue Ter, Chief Torkoer Samuel, contradicted the police account. He claimed that the Mobile Police personnel left the community on Wednesday with their equipment and Armoured Personnel Carriers.

The conflicting accounts have raised questions about the current security situation in Ayilamo and the extent of military presence in the community.
