Nigerian Afrobeats artist Reekado Banks has publicly acknowledged that his departure from Mavin Records, the label that initially propelled him to stardom, occurred sooner than it should have.

Banks, who gained recognition after signing with Mavin Records and winning the Rookie of the Year award at The Headies 2014, followed by the Next Rated award at The Headies 2015, established his own label, Banks Music, in 2018.

In a recent interview with Teddy A, Banks stated that he realized the timing of his exit was premature once he began independently managing his music career. He clarified that his departure was not the result of any discord, emphasizing that his contract had expired two years prior to his decision to leave. He stated that his contract with Mavin Records was a three-year deal, but he stayed for five years.

Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has described Chinua Achebe’s 1958 novel, Things Fall Apart, as the greatest African book ever written.

Speaking in a recent interview, Edochie said the novel’s enduring popularity stems from its authentic portrayal of African life and history. He noted that although several African writers have since explored similar themes, none has matched the strength and influence of Achebe’s work.

Edochie urged African writers and creatives to tell their own stories, describing this as their greatest advantage on the global stage. He also expressed concern that foreign cultural influences were overshadowing African talent and identity.

Reflecting on his own experience, the actor recalled being given Western names such as Elvis Presley and John Wayne before choosing the culturally significant name “Uwadiegwu.”
