Nigerian activist and influencer, VeryDarkMan (VDM), recently found himself at the center of an online controversy following an unusual discovery in his Chinese hotel room. In a video that quickly went viral, VDM detailed his experience of finding a questionable adult item within the wardrobe of his hotel room, initially opened in search of an iron.

VDM expressed his shock and concern, labeling the situation “fishy and scary,” especially after discovering his friend, residing in a separate room within the same hotel, did not have a similar item. His subsequent inquiry at the hotel reception yielded no explanation, further fueling his suspicion that the incident may have been a setup, particularly given his personal efforts to abstain from masturbation.

The incident has generated a range of reactions across Nigerian social media, with some users finding humor in the situation while others expressed genuine concern. Regardless of whether the event was a mere coincidence or an act of negligence, VDM’s account has undeniably ignited a lively debate within the online community.

Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has described Chinua Achebe’s 1958 novel, Things Fall Apart, as the greatest African book ever written.

Speaking in a recent interview, Edochie said the novel’s enduring popularity stems from its authentic portrayal of African life and history. He noted that although several African writers have since explored similar themes, none has matched the strength and influence of Achebe’s work.

Edochie urged African writers and creatives to tell their own stories, describing this as their greatest advantage on the global stage. He also expressed concern that foreign cultural influences were overshadowing African talent and identity.

Reflecting on his own experience, the actor recalled being given Western names such as Elvis Presley and John Wayne before choosing the culturally significant name “Uwadiegwu.”
