Popular TikTok personality Peller has publicly voiced his grievances regarding a substantial tax bill purportedly imposed by the Lagos State Government. During a recent livestream alongside singer Peruzzi, Peller claimed the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) demanded N36 million in income tax. He expressed disbelief, stating he had only risen to prominence within the past year.

Peruzzi advised Peller to settle the bill to avoid potential legal repercussions, emphasizing the civic duty of paying taxes. However, Peller maintained the tax assessment was exorbitant, highlighting the absence of any governmental support during his TikTok live sessions. He further alleged the tax demand stemmed from him showcasing his assets and disclosing his TikTok earnings. While Peruzzi suggested negotiating for an extended payment timeline, Peller asserted his income originated from social media platforms, not from within Nigeria itself. The dispute raises questions about the taxation of social media influencers and the perceived fairness of tax assessments.

Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has described Chinua Achebe’s 1958 novel, Things Fall Apart, as the greatest African book ever written.

Speaking in a recent interview, Edochie said the novel’s enduring popularity stems from its authentic portrayal of African life and history. He noted that although several African writers have since explored similar themes, none has matched the strength and influence of Achebe’s work.

Edochie urged African writers and creatives to tell their own stories, describing this as their greatest advantage on the global stage. He also expressed concern that foreign cultural influences were overshadowing African talent and identity.

Reflecting on his own experience, the actor recalled being given Western names such as Elvis Presley and John Wayne before choosing the culturally significant name “Uwadiegwu.”
