Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has described Chinua Achebe’s 1958 novel, Things Fall Apart, as the greatest African book ever written.

Speaking in a recent interview, Edochie said the novel’s enduring popularity stems from its authentic portrayal of African life and history. He noted that although several African writers have since explored similar themes, none has matched the strength and influence of Achebe’s work.

Edochie urged African writers and creatives to tell their own stories, describing this as their greatest advantage on the global stage. He also expressed concern that foreign cultural influences were overshadowing African talent and identity.

Reflecting on his own experience, the actor recalled being given Western names such as Elvis Presley and John Wayne before choosing the culturally significant name “Uwadiegwu.”

Afrobeats singer Austine Kelechi, popularly known as Tekno Miles, has defended the controversial “brain-rot content” trend, also referred to as the Olodo Uprising.

Speaking during a recent interview with Yanga FM Lagos, the Pana crooner argued that intellectual content no longer appeals to many Nigerians. According to him, comedy and entertainment have never been primarily about intelligence but about enjoyment and amusement.

Tekno cited Nollywood comedy legends Nkem Owoh, popularly known as Osuofia, and the late John Okafor, known as Mr Ibu, as examples. He said audiences admired them for their goofy and entertaining performances rather than their intellectual abilities.

“Intellectual no dey work again. Wetin I go do with your intellect?” he said, adding that he could watch comedian Carter Efe for hours simply because his humorous behaviour was entertaining.

His comments have sparked renewed debate about the place of intellectual content in Nigeria’s rapidly evolving entertainment industry.

American model and television personality Amber Rose has said she no longer identifies as a feminist, explaining that her views have evolved with age and motherhood.

Speaking about her perspective, Rose said having sons had helped her consider gender issues from a broader viewpoint. “As I’ve gotten older and now have sons, I’m no longer a feminist. I still believe in girl power, but I see both sides now,” she said.

Rose clarified that she continues to support women’s empowerment, body positivity and the advancement of women. However, her comments have prompted debate online, with some users criticizing her decision to distance herself from feminism, while others argued that raising sons may have influenced her outlook.

Some commentators welcomed her position, suggesting that motherhood had given her a more balanced perspective. Others claimed that she misunderstood feminism, which they described as advocating equality between men and women rather than hostility toward men.

Rose’s remarks have therefore reignited broader discussions about feminism, gender equality and how personal experiences can shape public views.

Indigenous rapper CDQ has praised Blaqbonez’s lyrical ability while identifying personality as an area in which the rapper needs improvement. Speaking on the Faloh Frequency podcast, CDQ argued that Blaqbonez is musically superior to several established Nigerian rappers, including Vector, Ice Prince, Reminisce, and Falz.

CDQ also addressed the perceived rivalry between Blaqbonez and Odumodublvck. Although he considered Blaqbonez the stronger musician, he maintained that Odumodublvck possesses a more compelling personality. According to him, Blaqbonez’s technical and lyrical skills are impressive, but his public presence does not match the confidence and individuality displayed by his colleague.

The comments highlight the distinction between musical ability and personal branding in the Nigerian rap industry. While lyrical excellence remains essential, an artist’s personality can significantly influence audience appeal and career visibility. CDQ’s assessment therefore presents Blaqbonez as a highly talented rapper whose impact could grow further through a stronger and more distinctive persona.
