Police Clarify Incident On Kabba-Okene Road
The Kogi State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that passengers were kidnapped along the Kabba-Okene Road on June 17, 2026.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Command’s spokesperson, Oyiza Salisu, described the claims as false, misleading, and designed to cause unnecessary panic among residents.
“No Passenger Was Kidnapped Or Harmed”
According to the statement, at about 9 p.m. on June 17, a commercial bus driven by Ojo, an indigene of Kabba, was travelling to Ibilo with a load of coco yam when the driver noticed unusual lights ahead.
Salisu explained that the driver, sensing possible danger, attempted to make a U-turn and, upon seeing some individuals approaching, abandoned the vehicle and ran to a nearby military checkpoint for safety.
Incident Not Criminal In Nature
Preliminary findings, according to the police, revealed that the incident was not criminal in nature. The vehicle had developed an electrical fault, which contributed to the confusion.
The statement added that the goods were later transferred to another vehicle and transported safely to their destination without further incident.
It further noted that the matter was handled at the military checkpoint and not formally reported to the police, as there was no kidnapping or casualty.
Police Warn Against Spreading False Information
The command urged members of the public to verify information before sharing it on social media, warning that spreading false reports could cause unnecessary fear and tension.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and security across Kogi State and encouraged residents to report genuine security concerns through official channels.
