Nigerian and U.S. forces carry out a joint precision airstrike in Tangaza LGA, destroying terrorist strongholds and disrupting logistics networks with no civilian casualties reported.

The Sokoto State Government confirmed on December 26, 2025, that a joint airstrike conducted by the Nigerian military and the United States successfully targeted terrorist enclaves in Tangaza Local Government Area (LGA).

The operation, described as a major counterterrorism success, was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle cross-border terrorist networks operating in northwestern Nigeria.

Key Impacts of the Airstrike

Target Neutralization

The airstrike successfully hit strongholds of the Lakurawa terrorist group and ISIS-linked elements.
Initial military assessments indicate the destruction of key terrorist infrastructure and the neutralization of several combatants.

Disruption of Logistics

The strikes targeted a primary route used by terrorists, effectively disrupting logistics networks and weakening their capacity to launch large-scale attacks during the festive season.

No Civilian Casualties

The Sokoto State Government confirmed that no civilian casualties were recorded in Tangaza or neighboring Tambuwal LGA.
Military officials clarified that the targeted areas were uninhabited by original residents, ensuring minimal risk to civilians.

Discovery of Suspicious Objects

Authorities are currently investigating suspicious objects discovered near Jabo town in Tambuwal LGA following the strikes.

Operational Context

Collaboration

The operation was a coordinated effort approved by President Bola Tinubu, following high-level intelligence sharing between Nigeria and the United States.

Precision

The U.S. military reportedly deployed 16 GPS-guided precision munitions to ensure accuracy and minimize collateral damage.

Ongoing Assessment

While the initial impact has been deemed successful, the Sokoto State Government stated that comprehensive assessment reports from the Joint Operations Command are still awaited to determine the full extent of the damage.

Government Reaction

The Sokoto State Government welcomed the Nigeria–U.S. collaboration, describing it as a necessary step toward restoring peace, protecting lives, and curbing cross-border terrorism in the region.

Officials reaffirmed their commitment to sustained military cooperation and intelligence-driven operations to ensure long-term stability in northwestern Nigeria.

The Nigeria Police Command in Benue State has dismissed reports alleging that Mobile Police personnel were withdrawn from Ayilamo community in Logo Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Orchia Aondogwu, the report was described as unfounded and baseless. He stated that Mobile Police personnel remained deployed in Ayilamo alongside the Divisional Police team and other tactical units.

Aondogwu also said additional military personnel had been deployed to reinforce security in the area, urging the public to disregard the report.

However, the traditional ruler of Ayilamo, Mue Ter, Chief Torkoer Samuel, contradicted the police account. He claimed that the Mobile Police personnel left the community on Wednesday with their equipment and Armoured Personnel Carriers.

The conflicting accounts have raised questions about the current security situation in Ayilamo and the extent of military presence in the community.
