Quick Summary:
President Bola Tinubu assures the Christian Association of Nigeria that his administration’s security overhaul is entering a decisive phase, reaffirming state police creation and unveiling a new counter-terrorism doctrine.

In a high-profile meeting with a delegation from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on December 26, 2025, President Bola Tinubu declared that the administration’s strategic overhaul of Nigeria’s national security architecture is reaching a critical turning point.

The dialogue, held at the President’s residence in Lagos, focused on security reforms, community policing, and defense modernization under the Renewed Hope agenda.

Key Strategic Commitments

State Police and Community Policing

President Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to decentralized law enforcement, confirming that the creation of state police is now a core component of his administration’s security strategy.
He explained that the transition framework will be finalized once the National Assembly completes constitutional amendments enabling state-level policing structures.

Military Hardware and Intelligence

The President addressed ongoing equipment procurement challenges, revealing that Nigeria is awaiting the delivery of attack helicopters from the United States and Turkey.
He emphasized that these assets, combined with enhanced intelligence sharing, will strengthen efforts to secure ungoverned spaces and combat terrorism more effectively.

New Security Doctrine

Tinubu highlighted the recent launch of a national counter-terrorism doctrine, which classifies all armed non-state actors as terrorists.
This reclassification, he said, empowers the military and security agencies to conduct more aggressive interventions against insurgent and criminal groups.

Response from CAN

The CAN delegation, led by Archbishop Daniel Okoh, commended the improvement in national security, noting that the 2025 Christmas period was remarkably peaceful compared to previous years.

While expressing support for the government’s efforts, CAN urged the administration to maintain transparency, protect vulnerable communities, and ensure that security reforms remain people-centered.

The “Shared Prosperity” Context

The President’s security commitments align with the 2026 Budget of ₦58.18 trillion, which allocates a record ₦5.41 trillion to Defense and Security.

Tinubu reiterated that economic growth and national stability are inseparable, stressing that the 2026 fiscal theme — “Consolidation, Renewed Resilience, and Shared Prosperity” — depends on achieving a secure environment for citizens and investors alike.

The Nigeria Police Command in Benue State has dismissed reports alleging that Mobile Police personnel were withdrawn from Ayilamo community in Logo Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Orchia Aondogwu, the report was described as unfounded and baseless. He stated that Mobile Police personnel remained deployed in Ayilamo alongside the Divisional Police team and other tactical units.

Aondogwu also said additional military personnel had been deployed to reinforce security in the area, urging the public to disregard the report.

However, the traditional ruler of Ayilamo, Mue Ter, Chief Torkoer Samuel, contradicted the police account. He claimed that the Mobile Police personnel left the community on Wednesday with their equipment and Armoured Personnel Carriers.

The conflicting accounts have raised questions about the current security situation in Ayilamo and the extent of military presence in the community.
