President Bola Tinubu has approved the deployment of a full army brigade to Kwara State to combat rising kidnapping and banditry, as part of Operation Fasan Yanma targeting criminal hideouts.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the deployment of a full army brigade to Kwara State to address the rising cases of kidnapping and banditry across the state.

The deployment forms part of a renewed military operation aimed at dismantling criminal hideouts in the forests of Kwara South and Kwara North, where armed groups have been operating and launching attacks on residents.

According to the Kwara State Government, heavy military equipment and personnel have begun moving through Oke-Ode and Babanla communities in Ifelodun Local Government Area, marking the start of a large-scale security operation.

The operation, which also extends to Edu and Patigi Local Government Areas, is designed to comb through dense forests that have served as bases for kidnappers and bandits who abduct residents for ransom.

Governor AbdulRazaq Commends Presidential Intervention

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq confirmed that he met with President Tinubu to discuss the worsening security situation during the president’s recent visit to Jos.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the governor expressed appreciation to the president, the military high command, and other security agencies for their swift response.

He added that the new deployment, which falls under Operation Fasan Yanma, is expected to eliminate all forms of threats in the affected areas of Kwara South and Kwara North.

Renewed Push for Peace and Stability

Governor AbdulRazaq also commended the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Chief of Army Staff, and the General Officer Commanding the 2nd Division for their roles in the renewed push to restore peace and stability in the state.

The deployment of the army brigade is expected to strengthen inter-agency collaboration among the military, police, DSS, and local vigilante groups, ensuring a coordinated approach to tackling insecurity.

Security analysts have described the move as a strategic step toward reclaiming ungoverned spaces in Kwara’s forest belts, which have become safe havens for criminal gangs operating along the Kogi–Kwara–Niger axis.

The operation is also expected to boost public confidence and reassure residents of the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

The Nigeria Police Command in Benue State has dismissed reports alleging that Mobile Police personnel were withdrawn from Ayilamo community in Logo Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Orchia Aondogwu, the report was described as unfounded and baseless. He stated that Mobile Police personnel remained deployed in Ayilamo alongside the Divisional Police team and other tactical units.

Aondogwu also said additional military personnel had been deployed to reinforce security in the area, urging the public to disregard the report.

However, the traditional ruler of Ayilamo, Mue Ter, Chief Torkoer Samuel, contradicted the police account. He claimed that the Mobile Police personnel left the community on Wednesday with their equipment and Armoured Personnel Carriers.

The conflicting accounts have raised questions about the current security situation in Ayilamo and the extent of military presence in the community.
