SP Daniel Ndukwe, the Command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrests, stating that the suspects were taken into custody on August 11 and 12, 2025, by the Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad. The arrests followed intelligence gathering after ransom demands were reported.

The victim was initially reported missing on July 26, 2025. Investigations revealed that Obodoagu Ikediekpere Wisdom allegedly used Sunday Michael, a security guard, to demand a ₦1,000,000 ransom from the child’s father in an attempt to conceal his identity.

According to police reports, when the ransom was not paid, the suspects murdered the child and buried him in a bush near their residence in Okinitor, Amankwo Ngwo, Udi LGA.

During interrogation, both suspects confessed to the crime. Obodoagu Ikediekpere Wisdom led the police to the burial site, where the victim’s body was exhumed in the presence of medical personnel, who confirmed the child’s death.

The Nigeria Police Command in Benue State has dismissed reports alleging that Mobile Police personnel were withdrawn from Ayilamo community in Logo Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Orchia Aondogwu, the report was described as unfounded and baseless. He stated that Mobile Police personnel remained deployed in Ayilamo alongside the Divisional Police team and other tactical units.

Aondogwu also said additional military personnel had been deployed to reinforce security in the area, urging the public to disregard the report.

However, the traditional ruler of Ayilamo, Mue Ter, Chief Torkoer Samuel, contradicted the police account. He claimed that the Mobile Police personnel left the community on Wednesday with their equipment and Armoured Personnel Carriers.

The conflicting accounts have raised questions about the current security situation in Ayilamo and the extent of military presence in the community.
