Quick Summary:
Ogun State Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele enters the Ogun West senatorial race for the 2027 elections, reshaping political dynamics within the APC after Senator Adeola’s adoption as consensus governorship candidate.

The Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, has officially entered the Ogun West senatorial race ahead of the 2027 general elections, sparking new political intrigues and permutations within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reports indicate that Salako-Oyedele, who was previously tipped as Governor Dapo Abiodun’s successor, obtained her Senate nomination and Expression of Interest forms through a third party on April 30, 2026.

Political Realignment After Adeola’s Adoption

The political landscape in Ogun State has shifted significantly following the adoption of Senator Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) as the APC’s consensus governorship candidate.

With the governorship ticket settled, attention has now turned to the Ogun West Senatorial District, where Adeola’s move to the governorship race has created a vacuum in the Red Chamber.

Salako-Oyedele’s entry into the race positions her as a frontline contender to succeed Adeola, with photos of her nomination forms already circulating across political platforms.

Other Aspirants And Gender Dynamics

Aside from the deputy governor, at least three other aspirants have reportedly obtained forms for the Ogun West senatorial seat. They include:

  • Senator Gbolahan Dada
  • Waliu Taiwo
  • Jimoh Ojugbele

Party insiders revealed that the growing ambitions among top politicians in the region have made a consensus arrangement difficult, though some factions within the APC are advocating for Salako-Oyedele based on gender representation.

Ogun State has not produced a female senator since 2011, when Senator Iyabo Obasanjo left the National Assembly.

Calls For Consensus And Party Unity

Following the precedent set by Senator Adeola’s consensus emergence, political observers and APC stakeholders are hoping for a seamless transition in the senatorial race.

Sources within the party suggest that adopting a consensus candidate could help preserve the unity currently enjoyed by the Ogun APC, preventing internal divisions as the 2026/2027 election cycle approaches.

The Nigeria Police Command in Benue State has dismissed reports alleging that Mobile Police personnel were withdrawn from Ayilamo community in Logo Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Orchia Aondogwu, the report was described as unfounded and baseless. He stated that Mobile Police personnel remained deployed in Ayilamo alongside the Divisional Police team and other tactical units.

Aondogwu also said additional military personnel had been deployed to reinforce security in the area, urging the public to disregard the report.

However, the traditional ruler of Ayilamo, Mue Ter, Chief Torkoer Samuel, contradicted the police account. He claimed that the Mobile Police personnel left the community on Wednesday with their equipment and Armoured Personnel Carriers.

The conflicting accounts have raised questions about the current security situation in Ayilamo and the extent of military presence in the community.
