Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has announced the appointment of Murtala Sule Garo as the new Deputy Governor, citing his experience and dedication to the state’s development as key reasons for the choice.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mustapha Muhammad, the governor said Garo was selected after a careful review of several candidates, with the decision based on past performance, competence, and capacity to contribute meaningfully to Kano’s progress.
Decision Announced At Executive Council Meeting
Governor Yusuf made the announcement during the 39th Executive Council meeting held at the Government House, Kano, where he emphasised the need for a deputy who could effectively support the administration’s development agenda.
Garo’s nomination followed the resignation of former Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, whose departure created a vacancy in the state’s executive leadership.

The Kano State House of Assembly swiftly screened and confirmed Garo’s nomination after receiving it from the governor last week.
Governor Yusuf commended the lawmakers, led by Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore, for their prompt action in approving the appointment.
The governor added that Garo would be sworn in soon and called on the public to support him in carrying out his duties.

Governor Yusuf also congratulated the new Head of Service, Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, acknowledging her valuable contributions in previous roles within the state’s civil service.
He urged civil servants and stakeholders to support her leadership, noting that her appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to efficiency and professionalism in public service.
