Nigeria’s Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo is recognised among four leading figures shaping Africa’s aviation sector at the IATA Focus Africa Conference in Addis Ababa.
Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has been named among four leading figures shaping the aviation sector across Africa, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
The recognition was announced at the IATA Focus Africa Conference currently taking place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Recognition Based On Reforms And Global Standards
Speaking during the session, Kamil Alawadhi, IATA’s Regional Vice President for Africa and the Middle East, said the selection was based on policy direction, ongoing reforms, and commitment to global aviation standards.
He cited Nigeria’s implementation of the Cape Town Convention and IDERA framework, as well as its 91.4 per cent safety oversight rating by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), as major factors behind the recognition.
The 91.4 per cent ICAO rating places Nigeria among the top-performing aviation systems on the African continent.
Other African Leaders Honoured
Alongside Keyamo, the other honourees include Teresia Mbaika Malokwe, Poppy Khosa, and Mesfin Tasew, all recognised for their leadership and contributions to advancing aviation safety, regulation, and innovation across Africa.
Boost For Nigeria’s Aviation Outlook
The recognition marks a positive milestone for Nigeria’s aviation industry, which has seen renewed focus on safety, infrastructure, and international partnerships under Keyamo’s leadership.
Analysts say the development could enhance investor confidence and strengthen Nigeria’s position in global aviation rankings, particularly as African countries compete for air traffic growth, airline expansion, and infrastructure investment.
The improved safety rating and regulatory compliance are also expected to attract more international carriers and bolster Nigeria’s aviation reputation within the global community.
