The FCTA bans the use of ambulances for transporting corpses, citing medical ethics, and announces plans to purchase hearses and 12 new ambulances.

FCTAmbulanceEthics has become a key public health topic as the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) condemned the growing use of ambulances to transport corpses in Abuja, describing the practice as unethical and inappropriate.

The announcement was made by Adedolapo Fasawe, Mandate Secretary of the Health Services and Environment Secretariat, on Friday during a media briefing after the fifth meeting of the FCT Executive Committee, chaired by Nyesom Wike, Minister of the FCT.

FCTA Moves to Enforce Medical Ethics

Fasawe explained that the administration has approved a contract for the purchase of 12 new ambulances and plans to acquire hearses in the next budget cycle to ensure that ambulances are used strictly for medical emergencies.

New Ambulances to Boost Emergency Response

Fasawe revealed that the 12 new Toyota Hiace Hiroof ambulances (2023–2024 models) are built to international standards and will soon be deployed across the city.

She added that the new vehicles will enhance emergency response in the FCT, especially with improved road infrastructure that now allows faster access to outlying areas.

Emergency Response Coordination

Fasawe reminded residents that emergency medical assistance can be reached by dialing 112, the national emergency number, which is active in the FCT.

The Nigeria Police Command in Benue State has dismissed reports alleging that Mobile Police personnel were withdrawn from Ayilamo community in Logo Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Orchia Aondogwu, the report was described as unfounded and baseless. He stated that Mobile Police personnel remained deployed in Ayilamo alongside the Divisional Police team and other tactical units.

Aondogwu also said additional military personnel had been deployed to reinforce security in the area, urging the public to disregard the report.

However, the traditional ruler of Ayilamo, Mue Ter, Chief Torkoer Samuel, contradicted the police account. He claimed that the Mobile Police personnel left the community on Wednesday with their equipment and Armoured Personnel Carriers.

The conflicting accounts have raised questions about the current security situation in Ayilamo and the extent of military presence in the community.
