Quick Summary:
FCT Minister pledges Tinubu’s commitment to complete road projects in satellite towns, says opposition can’t defeat President in 2027.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured residents of Abuja that President Bola Tinubu remains committed to completing ongoing road projects, particularly in satellite towns, to improve living conditions across the territory.
Wike made the remarks on Wednesday during an inspection tour of the Bwari–Kubwa road, where residents trooped out to welcome him. He urged citizens to continue supporting and praying for the President, noting that Tinubu’s priority is the happiness and welfare of the people.
‘Opposition Cannot Defeat Tinubu in FCT’
Speaking to journalists after inspecting several projects, Wike declared that it would be very difficult for any opposition party to defeat President Tinubu in the FCT during the 2027 elections.
He attributed the growing support for the administration to massive infrastructure development and visible improvements in residents’ lives.
Expanding Development Beyond the City Centre
Wike explained that the administration’s deliberate policy is to extend development beyond the city centre to rural and satellite communities.
The minister expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of ongoing projects, noting that residents’ reactions reflect the positive impact of government interventions.
Major Road Projects and Economic Impact
Wike listed several road projects under inspection, including those in Karu, Apo–Kashi, and Bwari–Kubwa, covering over 30 kilometres. He said many of the affected communities were experiencing such development for the first time.
He added that improved road networks would reduce travel time and ease movement between satellite towns and the city centre.
Some of the projects, he disclosed, would be completed and inaugurated as part of activities marking the President’s upcoming anniversary in office.
Real Estate Regulation and Governance
On the issue of real estate regulation, Wike dismissed calls for a new agency, insisting that existing institutions are sufficient.
He explained that the Department of Development Control already has the mandate to regulate physical planning and enforce compliance with the Abuja Master Plan.
Wike assured residents that the administration would act on reported cases of malpractice, including ensuring refunds where necessary.
Call for Unity and Support
The minister called for unity and collective effort in driving national development, emphasizing the government’s focus on security and economic growth.
Wike expressed optimism that ongoing interventions would enhance economic growth and improve living standards across the FCT.
