Ex-BBNaija star Tuoyo Ideh accuses NDLEA officers of beating and humiliating him during a nightclub raid in Lagos. NDLEA yet to respond

TuoyoNDLEAAllegation has sparked outrage after former Big Brother Naija housemate, Tuoyo Ideh, accused officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) of brutalising him during a raid at Proxy Nightclub, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Sunday, October 26, when NDLEA operatives, accompanied by military officers, stormed the nightclub and arrested over 100 guests, including Tuoyo and socialite Pretty Mike.

“I Was Beaten Like a Criminal” — Tuoyo Recounts Ordeal

In a video shared via his Instagram page on Monday night, Tuoyo recounted the harrowing experience, explaining that he had gone to the club as a promoter after helping clients book a table.

He said that despite being cleared of any wrongdoing, he was taken into custody with other guests and moved to the NDLEA office in Ikoyi, where officers allegedly refused to release anyone, even after confirming they had nothing illegal.

He explained that he decided to post on social media to alert the public about his arrest, fearing that people might not believe him otherwise.

According to him, after the post, he was singled out, beaten, and humiliated by NDLEA officers.

“Nigeria Finally Happened to Me”

Tuoyo revealed that a female officer later intervened to stop the assault but insisted that he should be ‘punished’ by doing frog jumps, even though he was already in severe pain.

He captioned his video:

NDLEA Yet to Respond

As of the time of this report, the NDLEA has not issued any official statement regarding Tuoyo’s allegations.

The incident has since triggered public outrage on social media, with many Nigerians calling for an independent investigation into the alleged abuse of power by the agency’s operatives.

Human rights advocates have also urged the NDLEA to review its operational procedures to prevent further cases of civilian mistreatment during raids.

Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has described Chinua Achebe’s 1958 novel, Things Fall Apart, as the greatest African book ever written.

Speaking in a recent interview, Edochie said the novel’s enduring popularity stems from its authentic portrayal of African life and history. He noted that although several African writers have since explored similar themes, none has matched the strength and influence of Achebe’s work.

Edochie urged African writers and creatives to tell their own stories, describing this as their greatest advantage on the global stage. He also expressed concern that foreign cultural influences were overshadowing African talent and identity.

Reflecting on his own experience, the actor recalled being given Western names such as Elvis Presley and John Wayne before choosing the culturally significant name “Uwadiegwu.”

Afrobeats singer Austine Kelechi, popularly known as Tekno Miles, has defended the controversial “brain-rot content” trend, also referred to as the Olodo Uprising.

Speaking during a recent interview with Yanga FM Lagos, the Pana crooner argued that intellectual content no longer appeals to many Nigerians. According to him, comedy and entertainment have never been primarily about intelligence but about enjoyment and amusement.

Tekno cited Nollywood comedy legends Nkem Owoh, popularly known as Osuofia, and the late John Okafor, known as Mr Ibu, as examples. He said audiences admired them for their goofy and entertaining performances rather than their intellectual abilities.

“Intellectual no dey work again. Wetin I go do with your intellect?” he said, adding that he could watch comedian Carter Efe for hours simply because his humorous behaviour was entertaining.

His comments have sparked renewed debate about the place of intellectual content in Nigeria’s rapidly evolving entertainment industry.
