Quick Summary:
Troops eliminate 45 bandits, including senior commander Alti, nephew of notorious leader Adamu Alieru, during fierce gun battle in Danmusa LGA.

Nigerian troops have killed 45 bandits, including a senior commander linked to notorious bandit leader Adamu Alieru, during a major counter-banditry operation in Katsina State.

The development was disclosed by security analyst Zagazola Makama in a post shared on X on Saturday.

According to the report, the gun battle occurred in Danmusa Local Government Area after troops received credible intelligence on the movement of bandits operating across Katsina and neighbouring Zamfara State.

Key Commanders Neutralized

Among those killed was a bandit leader identified as Alti, also known as Kachallah Alti, who was reportedly a nephew and second-in-command to Adamu Alieru.

Another commander, Damale, was also confirmed dead in the operation.

Makama noted that the clash followed an earlier attack on Alhazawa village in Musawa LGA on March 5, where bandits rustled cattle belonging to residents.

Villagers, aided by repentant bandits, fought back, killing four attackers and recovering the stolen cattle.

The bandits later regrouped and attempted a reprisal attack, but ran into troops stationed at a Forward Operating Base in Dan Ali area of Danmusa LGA.

Military Casualties and Ongoing Operations

The operation also recorded casualties on the military side, with three soldiers reportedly killed during the confrontation.

Further findings revealed that Alti had recently assumed a more active leadership role in the bandit network following the death of his brother, Kachalla Dan Isihu, who was previously killed by security forces.

Alti was believed to have coordinated multiple attacks on communities, particularly along the Danjibga axis in Tsafe LGA.

The Nigeria Police Command in Benue State has dismissed reports alleging that Mobile Police personnel were withdrawn from Ayilamo community in Logo Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Orchia Aondogwu, the report was described as unfounded and baseless. He stated that Mobile Police personnel remained deployed in Ayilamo alongside the Divisional Police team and other tactical units.

Aondogwu also said additional military personnel had been deployed to reinforce security in the area, urging the public to disregard the report.

However, the traditional ruler of Ayilamo, Mue Ter, Chief Torkoer Samuel, contradicted the police account. He claimed that the Mobile Police personnel left the community on Wednesday with their equipment and Armoured Personnel Carriers.

The conflicting accounts have raised questions about the current security situation in Ayilamo and the extent of military presence in the community.
