Quick Summary:
SuperEaglesResilience2025 as Peter Obi calls on Nigeria’s Super Eagles to remain strong and united after their World Cup qualifying defeat to DR Congo, urging them to rebuild with discipline and focus.

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged the Super Eagles to remain resilient following their defeat to the Democratic Republic of Congo in Sunday’s World Cup qualifying playoff final held in Morocco.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Obi acknowledged the disappointment felt across the nation but encouraged the players not to lose confidence.

“Our dear Super Eagles, I know how deeply yesterday’s outcome weighs on each of you. When you wear the green and white, you carry the heartbeat of the whole nation, and I acknowledge the hard work, sacrifice, and commitment you put into every match,” he wrote.

He added, “But let this moment not break your spirit. Great teams are defined by their response to adversity. Do not let today overshadow the greatness of tomorrow. The Eagle never bows its head; it lifts its wings.”

Call for Rebuilding and Focus

The former Anambra State governor urged the team to regroup and rebuild with greater discipline, focus, and preparedness, assuring them that Nigeria still believes in their potential.

He said the team’s journey should serve as a reminder that setbacks are part of growth and that the nation stands behind them as they prepare for future competitions.

Nigeria’s Elimination

Obi’s message came a day after Nigeria’s elimination from the World Cup qualifying play-offs on penalties.

The Super Eagles had taken an early lead in the third minute through a deflected strike from Frank Onyeka, before Meschak Elia equalised for DR Congo later in the first half.

The defeat means Nigeria has now missed back-to-back World Cup tournaments for the first time since their debut appearance in 1994.

The Nigeria Police Command in Benue State has dismissed reports alleging that Mobile Police personnel were withdrawn from Ayilamo community in Logo Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Orchia Aondogwu, the report was described as unfounded and baseless. He stated that Mobile Police personnel remained deployed in Ayilamo alongside the Divisional Police team and other tactical units.

Aondogwu also said additional military personnel had been deployed to reinforce security in the area, urging the public to disregard the report.

However, the traditional ruler of Ayilamo, Mue Ter, Chief Torkoer Samuel, contradicted the police account. He claimed that the Mobile Police personnel left the community on Wednesday with their equipment and Armoured Personnel Carriers.

The conflicting accounts have raised questions about the current security situation in Ayilamo and the extent of military presence in the community.
