Summary:
In a surprising twist to Southwest politics, the camp of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has publicly declared its intention to back President Bola Tinubu for a second term. Top political aide Munirudeen Raji revealed that the Governor’s re-election campaign will run concurrently with the President’s bid, signaling a major cross-party alliance.
The political landscape of Osun State is set for a dramatic reconfiguration ahead of the next general election cycle. In a revelation that bridges the divide between opposition lines, the political machinery of Governor Ademola Adeleke has announced its readiness to fully back the second-term ambition of President Bola Tinubu.
A Cross-Party Alliance
The disclosure was made by Munirudeen Raji, the Special Adviser on Politics to the Governor, during a media appearance on the program “Lero Temi.” Raji, who doubles as a chieftain of the Accord Party, admitted that while the Adeleke camp worked against the President during the 2023 presidential election, the dynamics have fundamentally shifted.
According to the Governor’s aide, the strategy for the 2027 presidential election will involve a unified front, treating the President’s success as a priority alongside the Governor’s retention of power.
“President Bola Tinubu belongs to all of us,” Raji declared. “I even stated in a forum recently that when electioneering campaigns start, whenever we print Governor Adeleke’s posters, we will ensure that President Bola Tinubu is included so that the electorate will know we are also campaigning for him.”
Guaranteeing Victory
Despite the partisan differences on paper—with Governor Adeleke officially elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) banner—Raji expressed absolute confidence in a Tinubu victory. He emphasized that the political machinery in Osun is prepared to deliver the state to the President.
“We will vote for Governor Ademola Adeleke for governor and also vote for Bola Tinubu for president. I can guarantee that President Bola Tinubu will win the 2027 presidential election,” he affirmed.
The Accord Party Connection
Adding a layer of complexity to the narrative, Raji insisted that Governor Adeleke and his appointees are ideologically aligned with the Accord Party, even though the state’s elected representatives remain in the PDP. He dismissed rumors of factionalism within the party as “mischief from the opposition,” maintaining that the Governor’s popularity remains the camp’s strongest asset.
“The electorate still wants Governor Adeleke… Governor Ademola Adeleke will win the August 8 election because he is a man of the people,” Raji concluded, citing the Governor’s “dancing” as a symbol of the joy and democratic dividends brought to the state.
