The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested armed thugs allegedly sponsored by a serving member of the House of Representatives to destabilise the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections in the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, Falade Adegoroye Michael, announced the arrest during a press conference on Friday in Ado-Ekiti.
According to the commissioner, the suspects were apprehended at about 9pm on Thursday at Onikoyi Hotel, Ikun-Ekiti, following credible intelligence about their arrival in the area.
Suspects And Recovered Items
The arrested suspects were identified as Adekunle Stephen, Boluwaji Ishola, Adepoju Adebayo, Oluwatobi Adeoluwa, Akintunde Emmanuel, Ibitola Babatope, and Adewale Makanjuola, while others escaped in three vehicles.
The police described them as “armed hoodlums with dangerous weapons.”
Recovered items from the suspects included:
- One Beretta Pistol
- Two Pump Action Guns
- Nine rounds of 9mm live ammunition
- Four live cartridges
- Substances suspected to be criminal charms
- Two Apple laptops
- One Honda Accord car
Confession And Ongoing Investigation
Commissioner Falade disclosed that the suspects confessed to being political thugs hired by a serving federal lawmaker to disrupt the APC primary elections earlier scheduled for May 15, 2026.
He assured that the arrested suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
Election Postponement
The APC primary election, initially slated for Friday, May 15, was later postponed to Saturday, May 16, 2026, following the security incident.
The police command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and order across Ekiti State, warning that any attempt to disrupt the electoral process would be met with decisive action.
