Quick Summary:
OunjeEkoPhaseII as the Lagos State Government launches the second phase of its farmers’ subsidy programme to enhance food production, support livestock nutrition, and stabilize food prices across the state.
Lagos, Nigeria – The Lagos State Government has announced plans to roll out the second phase of its ‘Ounje Eko’ Farmers’ Subsidy Programme before the end of November 2025, aimed at improving farmers’ access to quality feed and boosting agricultural productivity across the state.
The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Abisola Olusanya, during a press briefing held at Alausa, Ikeja.
Sustaining Food Security and Farmer Empowerment
Olusanya described the initiative as a key component of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration’s strategy to sustain food production, empower farmers, and stabilise food prices, particularly during the yuletide season.
She noted that the first phase of the programme, launched earlier in the year, recorded significant success, directly benefiting over 5,000 farmers.
The intervention also led to a drop in egg prices, from ₦6,000 per crate to between ₦5,000 and ₦5,400, easing pressure on consumers.
Phase II: Expanded Support and Subsidies
Building on the success of the initial rollout, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the implementation of Phase II, which will expand the programme’s scope and reach.
The second phase will include:
- 25% subsidy on poultry feed (layer mash, broiler starter, and finisher) and fish feed.
- Free distribution of grains to pig farmers to support livestock nutrition.
- Provision of agricultural equipment and inputs to crop farming clusters to enhance mechanisation and reduce manual labour.
The initiative aims to strengthen food systems, reduce production costs, and increase yields across multiple agricultural sectors.
