Senator Adams Oshiomhole condemns electoral fraud, warning that vote buying and result manipulation destroy the foundation of democracy.

Edo North Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, has described electoral fraud as the worst crime in a democracy, stressing that it undermines the will of the people and erodes public trust in governance.

Oshiomhole made the remark on Monday during an interview on News Central, where he discussed the delays in Nigeria’s electoral reforms ahead of the 2027 general election.

He warned that vote buying and manipulation of election results remain major threats to democratic integrity in the country.

“I Won Without Buying Votes”

Recalling his 2012 re-election as Edo State Governor, Oshiomhole said he won in all 18 local government areas without engaging in vote buying.

He explained that he had openly told voters that their votes must reflect their conscience, not financial inducement, emphasizing that true democracy thrives on free choice.

Call for Electoral Reforms

The former governor urged the National Assembly and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to accelerate electoral reforms to ensure credible, transparent, and fair elections in 2027.

He maintained that strengthening institutions and enforcing electoral laws are essential to protecting democracy and restoring citizens’ confidence in the electoral process.

The rapper, known for her unfiltered honesty, voiced her frustration in a widely circulated video, lamenting the disproportionate attention her activities receive compared to those of her peers.
