NigeriaEducationCrisis2026 as One Youth Global warns of worsening poverty and education crisis, urges Tinubu administration to declare national emergency on schooling.
One Youth Global has raised alarm over Nigeria’s worsening social and economic crisis, revealing that over 120 million Nigerians now live in extreme poverty, while more than 18 million children remain out of school.
The organisation urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to adopt urgent and practical policies to expand access to education, improve school infrastructure, and reward academic excellence.
Its President, Uchechukwu Agbo, described the situation as a national emergency, stressing that the government must act decisively to reverse the trend.
Calls for Curriculum Reform and Teacher Welfare
Agbo called for a comprehensive review of Nigeria’s curriculum, arguing that young people must be equipped with practical knowledge and problem-solving skills relevant to the modern world.
He also lamented the poor remuneration of teachers, which he said discourages qualified individuals from joining the profession.
Diaspora Investment and Link Between Education and Security
The One Youth Global president urged Nigerians in the diaspora to invest in education within their home communities, noting that the government alone cannot fix the system.
He linked the education crisis to insecurity, pointing out that over 70 per cent of out-of-school children are in northern Nigeria, where terrorism and violence are most prevalent.
Call for Modern Learning Facilities
Agbo further called on governments at all levels to equip schools with modern learning facilities, including laboratories and libraries, to improve the quality of education.
He emphasised that meaningful reform would require deliberate investment in public schools across the country.
