Nigeria Fuel Queues END 2026: IPMAN Confirms Dangote Refinery 50M Litres Daily Supply, ₦800/Liter Prices Stable

Summary: IPMAN assures Nigerians of permanent fuel availability as Dangote Refinery hits 50m liter/day output, but ex-depot prices stabilize at ₦800/liter amid calls to scrap moribund state refineries.

The long, agonizing hours spent in fuel queues may finally be relegated to the history books. In a landmark declaration on Sunday, January 4, 2026, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) assured the public that the festive season scarcity is gone for good. But this new era of abundance isn’t free—it comes with a new price floor of ₦800 per liter.

For the first time in Nigeria’s history, the private sector has seized total control of the downstream sector, leaving government refineries in the dust.

The Dangote Juggernaut Hits 100% Capacity

The confidence from IPMAN isn’t PR spin; it’s backed by cold, hard logistics. The Dangote Refinery has confirmed it is sitting on enough stock to supply 50 million liters of PMS daily throughout January.

That number is the holy grail of Nigerian fuel security: it is roughly equal to the nation’s entire daily consumption.

IPMAN, whose members control over 80% of retail outlets, has issued a binding directive: abandon imports, prioritize Dangote. The refinery’s pricing is simply too competitive to ignore.

The “Free Delivery” Masterstroke

Beyond just production, a revolutionary agreement commenced this month that dismantles the old corruption-riddled system. A landmark deal now allows for direct supply and free delivery of PMS from the refinery to IPMAN-registered filling stations.

This is the death knell for the “tanker driver” cartel. By cutting out middlemen and logistics costs, the supply chain is faster, leaner, and more transparent.

The Two-Faced Market: Stability vs. Price

Here is the paradox: while queues have vanished, prices have not fallen. As of early January, ex-depot prices have strategically aligned at ₦800 per liter in Lagos and Port Harcourt.

Industry analysts argue this isn’t profiteering—it’s an investment. The Dangote Refinery is undergoing planned strategic maintenance to crush operational bottlenecks. The goal is ambitious: ramping long-term capacity to 700,000 barrels per day. Nigerians are essentially paying a premium today for guaranteed surplus tomorrow.

The Zombie Refineries: Privatize or Perish

While Dangote roars, Nigeria’s state-owned refining sector is on life support. Reports confirm the Port Harcourt Refinery remained in “shutdown mode” through late 2025 and into 2026, crippled by mechanical failures.

Marketers have lost patience. With the private sector proving it can power the nation, IPMAN has issued an ultimatum to the government: privatize the state refineries by the end of Q1 2026.

The message is brutal but clear: The Dangote train has left the station. The government can either sell its dead assets or watch them rust into oblivion.

The Nigeria Police Command in Benue State has dismissed reports alleging that Mobile Police personnel were withdrawn from Ayilamo community in Logo Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Orchia Aondogwu, the report was described as unfounded and baseless. He stated that Mobile Police personnel remained deployed in Ayilamo alongside the Divisional Police team and other tactical units.

Aondogwu also said additional military personnel had been deployed to reinforce security in the area, urging the public to disregard the report.

However, the traditional ruler of Ayilamo, Mue Ter, Chief Torkoer Samuel, contradicted the police account. He claimed that the Mobile Police personnel left the community on Wednesday with their equipment and Armoured Personnel Carriers.

The conflicting accounts have raised questions about the current security situation in Ayilamo and the extent of military presence in the community.
