Quick Summary:
Businessman Isaac Fayose alleges ex-Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai will face N2.3bn corruption charge, accusing the APC-led government of persecuting opposition figures.
Popular Nigerian businessman, Isaac Fayose, has claimed that former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, will soon be charged for alleged N2.3 billion corruption.
His statement follows reports that Department of State Services (DSS) operatives attempted to arrest El-Rufai at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Thursday.
El-Rufai, in an interview with BBC Pidgin, alleged that the DSS acted on the instruction of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to effect his arrest.
“When You’re in Opposition, You’re Corrupt”
Reacting to the development, Fayose, in a video posted on his X account, accused the APC-led government of targeting opposition figures while protecting its allies.
He alleged that El-Rufai’s recent departure from the ruling party had made him a target of political persecution.
Fayose Mentions Other Political Figures
Fayose also referenced other politicians, including former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Nyesom Wike, to illustrate what he described as selective justice.
Background: DSS Attempted Arrest Sparks Reactions
The attempted arrest of El-Rufai has continued to generate political tension, with opposition voices accusing the Tinubu administration of using security agencies to intimidate dissenters.
Neither the ICPC nor the DSS has issued an official statement confirming the alleged corruption charge or the reason for the attempted arrest.
