The South West leadership of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) on Monday staged a protest in Lagos State over the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khanemei, allegedly by US and Israeli strikes.

The protesters converged around the Maryland axis in the early hours of the day, denouncing the invasion of Iran and chanting anti-American slogans, demanding global condemnation of what they described as foreign aggression.

Fear Grips Residents

The demonstration caused tension in the area, as residents and commuters expressed fear of possible unrest due to the charged atmosphere created by the protesters.

IMN Condemns US Intervention

Speaking to Leadership Newspaper, the South West Coordinator of IMN, Muftau Zakariya, said the protest was organized to register the group’s concerns over the continued invasion of sovereign nations by the administration of former US President Donald Trump.

He cited Venezuela’s invasion and the seizure of its president and energy infrastructure as examples of US interference in other countries’ affairs.

He also linked the heightened attacks in Kwara State to US involvement, warning that such actions could destabilize nations and worsen global insecurity.

The Nigeria Police Command in Benue State has dismissed reports alleging that Mobile Police personnel were withdrawn from Ayilamo community in Logo Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Orchia Aondogwu, the report was described as unfounded and baseless. He stated that Mobile Police personnel remained deployed in Ayilamo alongside the Divisional Police team and other tactical units.

Aondogwu also said additional military personnel had been deployed to reinforce security in the area, urging the public to disregard the report.

However, the traditional ruler of Ayilamo, Mue Ter, Chief Torkoer Samuel, contradicted the police account. He claimed that the Mobile Police personnel left the community on Wednesday with their equipment and Armoured Personnel Carriers.

The conflicting accounts have raised questions about the current security situation in Ayilamo and the extent of military presence in the community.
