Rep Abdussamad Dasuki announces he will not seek re-election in 2027, calling it a personal sacrifice to create space for younger Nigerians in governance.

DasukiYouthLegacy has sparked national reflection as Abdussamad Dasuki, a member of the House of Representatives representing Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency, announced that he will not seek re-election in the 2027 general election.

Dasuki described his decision as a personal sacrifice to create space for younger Nigerians to serve and bring fresh ideas into governance.

A Decision Rooted in Sacrifice and Belief

In a statement obtained on Sunday, Dasuki said his decision was driven by the need to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy through youth inclusion and generational renewal.

He clarified that his decision was not born out of fatigue or disillusionment, but rather a higher calling rooted in belief, hope, and a shared vision for the future.

Championing Youth Inclusion

Dasuki, who first held elective office in 2011, has served in the Sokoto State House of Assembly, the State Executive Council, and currently in the National Assembly.

He also chairs the Future Is Now Project, a youth inclusion initiative launched in October 2025, which advocates that 70 per cent of seats in the House of Representatives be occupied by Nigerians under 40 by 2027.

Explaining his decision further, Dasuki said it was a demonstration of consistency with the youth inclusion agenda he has long championed.

Gratitude and Reflection

Reflecting on his 14-year political journey, Dasuki expressed gratitude to his constituents and his political mentor, former Sokoto State Governor and current Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, for their trust and guidance.

Continuing Service Beyond Politics

Dasuki affirmed that stepping aside from elective politics does not mark the end of his public service. He pledged to continue contributing to national development through mentorship, policy advocacy, and youth empowerment.

The victims—seven males and four females—were rescued during an intelligence-led operation conducted by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit. According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the operation followed intelligence received on October 19, 2026, concerning a suspected hideout.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the victims were allegedly deceived by a fellow Ghanaian national who promised to facilitate their travel abroad. Each victim reportedly paid GH₵40,000 before being brought to Nigeria and detained against their will.

The victims are currently receiving care and support, while detectives work to identify and arrest other members of the alleged criminal network.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for its prompt response and professionalism. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and combating transnational crime, stating that Ogun State would not become a safe haven for criminals.
