Quick Summary:
Bandits demand N1 billion ransom for villagers abducted on Easter Sunday in Kachia LGA, Kaduna State, sparking outrage and calls for urgent government intervention.

Bandits who abducted residents of Ariko community in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State are demanding N1 billion ransom for their release.

The victims were kidnapped on Easter Sunday during a violent attack that left several residents dead and plunged the community into mourning and fear.

Community Youths Condemn Attack

In a statement issued on Monday by the Concerned Ariko Youths, signed by Chairman Linus Audu and Secretary Kefas Likita, the group described the incident as a tragic assault on innocent worshippers during a solemn period of reflection.

The statement revealed that the abducted victims include two elderly blind men, two widows whose husbands were killed during the attack, their children, several young children, two critically ill women, and entire families.

Humanitarian Crisis Deepens

The group said the incident has created a humanitarian crisis in the community, leaving families traumatised and uncertain about the fate of their loved ones.

They described the N1 billion ransom as outrageous and impossible for the rural community to meet, noting that it is neither reasonable nor humane to expect devastated families to raise such an amount.

The statement added that the attack reflects a troubling pattern of insecurity in Southern Kaduna, where rural communities have repeatedly suffered kidnappings and killings by armed groups.

Calls For Government Intervention

The Concerned Ariko Youths urged the Kachia Local Government authorities to collaborate with security agencies and provide immediate support to affected families.

They also appealed to the Kaduna State Government to deploy adequate security measures to ensure the safe rescue of the victims, while calling on the Federal Government to intensify efforts in tackling banditry nationwide.

Security Agencies Yet To Respond

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had not issued an official response regarding the abduction or the ransom demand.

The incident adds to the growing list of banditry-related kidnappings in Kaduna and other parts of Northwestern Nigeria, where communities continue to face repeated attacks despite ongoing military operations.

The Nigeria Police Command in Benue State has dismissed reports alleging that Mobile Police personnel were withdrawn from Ayilamo community in Logo Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Orchia Aondogwu, the report was described as unfounded and baseless. He stated that Mobile Police personnel remained deployed in Ayilamo alongside the Divisional Police team and other tactical units.

Aondogwu also said additional military personnel had been deployed to reinforce security in the area, urging the public to disregard the report.

However, the traditional ruler of Ayilamo, Mue Ter, Chief Torkoer Samuel, contradicted the police account. He claimed that the Mobile Police personnel left the community on Wednesday with their equipment and Armoured Personnel Carriers.

The conflicting accounts have raised questions about the current security situation in Ayilamo and the extent of military presence in the community.
