Quick Summary:
Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke dismisses APC’s demand for Chief of Staff Kazeem Akinleye’s resignation over alleged payroll fraud, describing the opposition’s move as political frustration.

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has rejected calls by the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the resignation of his Chief of Staff, Kazeem Akinleye, describing the demand as a “melancholic tantrum.”

In a statement issued in Osogbo on Saturday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor said the APC’s position reflected frustration over its declining political relevance in the state.

Government Defends Akinleye

The APC had on Friday demanded Akinleye’s resignation over alleged links to a ₦13.7 billion payroll fraud, prompting a swift response from the state government.

Rasheed described the opposition as “largely overwhelmed and in political depression,” insisting that Akinleye remained an efficient and competent Chief of Staff serving a “multiple award-winning governor.”

He added that Akinleye had shown “acute mastery of governance processes” and acted as a consensus builder committed to due process and transparency.

“Akinleye Protected the State from Fraud”

Rasheed further stated that Akinleye had served as a “strong gatekeeper” who ensured that Osun State was not defrauded in dealings involving Sally Tibbot, adding that the governor remained proud of his contributions.

APC Accused of Political Desperation

The spokesperson also claimed that Governor Adeleke currently enjoys over 80% approval rating, contrasting it with what he described as the APC’s 85% disapproval rate in the state.

He accused the APC of facing electoral backlash due to its past governance record and mismanagement of local government funds.

The Nigeria Police Command in Benue State has dismissed reports alleging that Mobile Police personnel were withdrawn from Ayilamo community in Logo Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Orchia Aondogwu, the report was described as unfounded and baseless. He stated that Mobile Police personnel remained deployed in Ayilamo alongside the Divisional Police team and other tactical units.

Aondogwu also said additional military personnel had been deployed to reinforce security in the area, urging the public to disregard the report.

However, the traditional ruler of Ayilamo, Mue Ter, Chief Torkoer Samuel, contradicted the police account. He claimed that the Mobile Police personnel left the community on Wednesday with their equipment and Armoured Personnel Carriers.

The conflicting accounts have raised questions about the current security situation in Ayilamo and the extent of military presence in the community.
