Quick Summary:
Kano Central Senator Rufai Sani Hanga faces N124.8 million lawsuit at Shahuci Upper Sharia Court over alleged unpaid campaign services from 2023 election.

Senator Rufai Sani Hanga, representing Kano Central Senatorial District, is facing a one-count charge before the Shahuci Upper Sharia Court over alleged unpaid campaign funds amounting to N124,800,070.

The case was filed by Isa Ado Medoya and several others, who claim they executed campaign assignments for the senator during the 2023 electioneering period but have not been compensated as agreed.

Plaintiffs Present Evidence, Seek More Time

At the hearing presided over by Judge Muhammad Sani, counsel for the plaintiffs, Barrister Abbas Sani Abubakar Mandawari, outlined the basis of the claim and presented documents and samples purportedly showing the work carried out.

Mandawari requested additional time to consult with his clients and organise further materials for verification.

Counsel for the defendant, however, opposed the request, arguing that the plaintiffs were unprepared to proceed and urged the court to dismiss the suit for lack of diligence.

Court Grants Extension, Adjourns Case

The court rejected the dismissal plea, ruling that the plaintiffs should be granted more time to consolidate their filings.

Judge Sani stressed the importance of fair hearing and allowing both parties adequate opportunity to present their cases fully.

The matter was adjourned to April 21, 2026, when the plaintiffs are expected to submit complete documentation, after which the defendant’s counsel will file a formal response.

The Ogun State Police Command has rescued 11 Ghanaian nationals allegedly held hostage in Sagamu after being lured to Nigeria with promises of Canadian and Spanish visas.

The victims—seven males and four females—were rescued during an intelligence-led operation conducted by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit. According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the operation followed intelligence received on October 19, 2026, concerning a suspected hideout.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the victims were allegedly deceived by a fellow Ghanaian national who promised to facilitate their travel abroad. Each victim reportedly paid GH₵40,000 before being brought to Nigeria and detained against their will.

The victims are currently receiving care and support, while detectives work to identify and arrest other members of the alleged criminal network.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for its prompt response and professionalism. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and combating transnational crime, stating that Ogun State would not become a safe haven for criminals.

The police urged members of the public to verify overseas travel and visa arrangements before making payments and to report suspicious activities to the authorities.
