Quick Summary:
Former Senate President Abubakar Saraki calls on PDP leaders to accept Court of Appeal ruling on national convention and focus on 2027 elections.

Former Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has urged leaders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to accept the recent Court of Appeal ruling on the party’s national convention and end internal disputes.

In a statement signed by Yusuph Olaniyonu, Head of the Abubakar Bukola Saraki Media Office, Saraki appealed to party members to “let sleeping dogs lie” and focus on rebuilding unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Court of Appeal had on Monday upheld the Federal High Court judgment restraining the PDP from holding its Ibadan national convention, dismissing the appeal filed by the Taminu Turaki-led faction.

Warning Against Endless Litigation

Reacting to the ruling, Saraki cautioned that continued legal battles could jeopardize the PDP’s ability to field candidates within the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timetable.

He emphasized that the party’s primary duty is to provide a platform for members to contest elections, warning that personal egos and internal rivalries could undermine that purpose.

Call for Dialogue and Consensus

Saraki urged PDP leaders to adopt a “give-and-take attitude” and work toward an all-inclusive national convention that complies with INEC guidelines.

He described unity and compromise as the “more noble, dignified, and responsible” path, stressing that dialogue and consensus-building are essential to keeping the PDP stable and competitive ahead of the 2027 polls.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, Badamasi and his alleged accomplice, Ma’aruf Sani, reportedly offered a 21-year-old motorcyclist a sweet containing a harmful substance. The victim, who resides in the Yelwa Tudun area of Bauchi, allegedly became intoxicated after consuming it.

The suspects were said to have attempted to dispossess him of his Bajaj Boxer motorcycle. Sani, both of whose residents are reportedly from Na’ibawa in Kano State, escaped and is currently the subject of a police manhunt.

The Nigeria Police Command in Benue State has dismissed reports alleging that Mobile Police personnel were withdrawn from Ayilamo community in Logo Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Orchia Aondogwu, the report was described as unfounded and baseless. He stated that Mobile Police personnel remained deployed in Ayilamo alongside the Divisional Police team and other tactical units.

Aondogwu also said additional military personnel had been deployed to reinforce security in the area, urging the public to disregard the report.

However, the traditional ruler of Ayilamo, Mue Ter, Chief Torkoer Samuel, contradicted the police account. He claimed that the Mobile Police personnel left the community on Wednesday with their equipment and Armoured Personnel Carriers.

The conflicting accounts have raised questions about the current security situation in Ayilamo and the extent of military presence in the community.
