NDLEADrugInterception: NDLEA stops drugs hidden in snails, bulbs, and clothes at Lagos airport and ports. See how NDLEADrugInterception is fighting drug smuggling in Nigeria.
NDLEADrugInterception operations have taken a significant leap forward as the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) disrupts a series of elaborate drug trafficking attempts at key entry and exit points in Nigeria. Recent actions by the agency have exposed creative concealment methods, underscoring the evolving nature of drug smuggling and the agency’s commitment to national security.
Innovative Concealment Methods Thwarted
NDLEA operatives at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) and a major courier facility in Lagos intercepted multiple consignments of illicit substances ingeniously hidden in everyday items. Among the discoveries were parcels of skunk cleverly packed inside giant rechargeable electrical bulbs, tramadol pills stashed within frozen snails, and bromazepam tablets sewn into female clothing. These shipments were destined for international locations including the United States, United Kingdom, and Democratic Republic of Congo.
Key Arrests and Seizures
The agency’s vigilance led to the arrest of Boladale Riliwan, a cargo agent, after 15 parcels of skunk were found in electrical bulbs intended for export to Congo. In a separate incident, Olawale Oyebola Hakeemot, a UK-based public health assistant, was apprehended with 2,300 tramadol pills concealed in frozen snails while preparing to board a flight to Manchester. Another attempt to export 810 bromazepam pills hidden in women’s apparel to the United States was also foiled at a Lagos courier company.
Nationwide Enforcement Successes
NDLEA’s reach extended beyond Lagos. In Adamawa State, officers intercepted Bello Buba at a checkpoint in Namtari, Yola South, seizing 38,270 tramadol pills ingeniously hidden in various compartments of his vehicle, which had entered Nigeria from Benin Republic. In Oyo State, coordinated operations led to the arrest of multiple suspects and the confiscation of over 869kg of skunk in separate locations. In Lagos, 117kg of skunk was recovered from a suspect’s base in Mushin.
Major Pharmaceutical Interception at Apapa Port
A landmark seizure occurred at Apapa Port, where NDLEA, in collaboration with Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies, confiscated 80,000 bottles of codeine-based syrup from a container arriving from India. This operation highlights the agency’s proactive approach to monitoring pharmaceutical imports and preventing the distribution of controlled substances.
Commitment to Public Safety
These recent breakthroughs by NDLEADrugInterception teams reflect NDLEA’s unwavering dedication to combating drug trafficking through intelligence-driven operations and inter-agency collaboration. The agency’s efforts continue to safeguard communities and reinforce Nigeria’s position in the global fight against illicit drugs.
