New York City Sues Trump Administration Over $80.5 Million in Migrant Housing Grants.
On Friday, New York City filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, contesting the withdrawal of $80.5 million in federal grants designated for housing migrants. The city’s complaint, submitted in Manhattan federal court, refutes federal allegations of fund misappropriation, arguing that the actions taken on February 11 undermined Congress’s intent in appropriating these funds.
The dispute arises from funds disbursed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on February 4, which subsequently vanished from a city bank account. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem claimed to have reclaimed this payment, referring to it as a prudential measure against alleged mismanagement by “deep state activists” at FEMA.
New York City’s lawsuit demands the reinstatement of the $80.5 million grant and seeks an injunction to prevent any similar future rescissions. The White House has yet to issue a statement regarding these developments.
In the background, President Donald Trump has criticized FEMA for purportedly squandering taxpayer funds in Democratic-controlled regions. His advisor, Elon Musk, amplified these sentiments on social media, alleging that around $59 million was used to house migrants in luxurious accommodations, in violation of the law.
Conversely, New York City officials have labeled Musk’s assertions as inaccurate and denied claims linking criminal activity to those housed at the Roosevelt Hotel, which was converted into a migrant shelter. Mayor Eric Adams remarked that while the immigration system is flawed, the financial burden of addressing it should not rest disproportionately on the city’s shoulders. “The $80 million that FEMA approved, paid and then rescinded… is the bare minimum our taxpayers deserve,” Adams stated.
As the legal proceedings unfold, the implications for both New York City and federal housing policy for migrants remain to be seen.
Atlanta-based rapper Silento, known for his viral hit “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae),” has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm. The sentencing follows his confession to fatally shooting his cousin, Frederick Rooks III, in January 2021.
DeKalb County Police discovered Rooks with multiple gunshot wounds. Investigations revealed that Silento and Rooks were last seen together in a white BMW SUV, which was later captured on security footage fleeing the scene after the shooting.
Prior to the incident, Silento’s PR manager, Chanel Hudson, stated that the rapper had been struggling with mental health issues for several years. In 2020, he was also charged with assault for allegedly attacking two people with a hatchet. Silento himself acknowledged his struggles with mental health in a 2019 interview, stating, “I have been fighting demons my whole life.”

The summit commenced with a conference centred on the theme: “The Strategic Role of the African Diaspora in AfCFTA Integration.” Discussions focused on how the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) represents a pivotal step towards unifying the African market and the crucial role of the African Diaspora in realizing AfCFTA’s vision. The event then transitioned into a Gala Awards ceremony.

Boulder, Colorado: Suspect Arrested in “Targeted Terror Attack” at Pro-Israel Demonstration.
Boulder, Colorado, became the scene of a violent incident on Sunday, as a man attacked a group of demonstrators with a makeshift flamethrower, injuring eight people. The FBI is investigating the event as a “targeted terror attack.”
The victims, four women and four men aged between 52 and 88, were participating in a “Run For Their Lives” event organized to raise awareness for Israeli captives held in Gaza. The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Mohamed Sabry Soliman, allegedly yelled, “Free Palestine,” during the assault, according to FBI Special Agent Mark Michalek.
Emergency services transported the injured to local hospitals, with initial reports indicating serious injuries. Soliman was taken into custody and also received hospital treatment for injuries sustained during the incident. While formal charges have not yet been announced, officials have stated their intention to hold him “fully accountable.”
Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn refrained from speculation but confirmed the victims’ injuries were consistent with having been set on fire. He emphasized the peaceful nature of the demonstration and condemned the attack as “unacceptable,” urging the community to focus on supporting the victims and their families.
The incident occurs amidst rising tensions in the United States related to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, which has fueled an increase in both anti-Semitic and Islamophobic incidents. The attack has drawn condemnation from Colorado Governor Jared Polis, who decried “hate-filled acts of any kind,” and from Boulder’s Jewish community, which expressed sadness and heartbreak.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the attack. Al Jazeera’s Alan Fisher reported that witnesses described the suspect using what appeared to be Molotov cocktails. The FBI’s involvement underscores the seriousness of the incident and the potential for federal charges related to terrorism. The events in Boulder highlight the growing polarization and potential for violence surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict within the United States.
