Ijeoma Joesphina Otabor, widely known as Phyna, the winner of Big Brother Naija Season 7, has publicly accused the Dangote Group of failing to honor a commitment to provide overseas medical treatment for her sister, Ruth.

Ruth Otabor sustained critical injuries in a vehicular accident on August 13, 2025, involving a Dangote truck in Edo State. The accident resulted in the amputation of her left leg and endangers her right leg.

Phyna claims that the Dangote Group initially agreed to fly Ruth to India for specialized medical care. However, after a series of consultations and requests for medical reports, Phyna alleges that the company has reneged on its promise. She states that Dangote Group officials have become unresponsive, prompting her to appeal directly to Aliko Dangote for intervention.

Phyna emphasizes the urgency of her sister’s condition, stating that local medical facilities are inadequate to address Ruth’s needs. She insists that Dangote Group uphold its initial commitment to provide the necessary medical assistance.

Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has described Chinua Achebe’s 1958 novel, Things Fall Apart, as the greatest African book ever written.

Speaking in a recent interview, Edochie said the novel’s enduring popularity stems from its authentic portrayal of African life and history. He noted that although several African writers have since explored similar themes, none has matched the strength and influence of Achebe’s work.

Edochie urged African writers and creatives to tell their own stories, describing this as their greatest advantage on the global stage. He also expressed concern that foreign cultural influences were overshadowing African talent and identity.

Reflecting on his own experience, the actor recalled being given Western names such as Elvis Presley and John Wayne before choosing the culturally significant name “Uwadiegwu.”
