Quick Summary:
APC alleges Governor Adeleke plans N300bn loan using local councils as collateral, while Accord challenges APC candidate Oyebamiji over $20m health grant.

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke of planning to secure a N300 billion loan using the state’s 30 local government councils as collateral.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, the party alleged that the loan would be sourced from Unity Bank Plc, warning that such an arrangement would be unlawful and unconstitutional.

Lawal claimed that the state government held a meeting on Monday at the State Secretariat in Abere with local government officials and senior administrative officers, where the alleged borrowing plan was discussed.

He alleged that the arrangement would involve N10 billion per council, potentially placing additional financial burdens on the state.

APC Cites Legal Violations

Lawal argued that the move would violate the autonomy of local governments and contravene borrowing laws governing subnational entities.

The APC chairman urged financial institutions to be cautious, warning that states lack the legal authority to use local governments as collateral for loans.

He also maintained that only the APC council executives reinstated by the Court of Appeal are legally recognized to administer the councils.

The party called on stakeholders to scrutinize the alleged borrowing plan and ensure compliance with the Debt Management Office Act 2003, which outlines procedures and approvals required for public borrowing.

Accord Challenges Oyebamiji Over $20m Health Grant

Meanwhile, the Accord Party in Osun State has called on APC governorship candidate Bola Oyebamiji to clarify his alleged role in the management of a $20 million primary health care grant during the administration of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.

In a statement signed by Accord State Chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, the party questioned Oyebamiji’s actions while serving as Commissioner for Finance and Chairman of the State Procurement Board.

He also asked whether the procurement board’s recommendations to the State Executive Council complied with public procurement laws.

The Accord Party stated that records of the procurement processes were available and urged Oyebamiji to provide explanations regarding the handling of the World Bank-supported grant.

The Nigeria Police Command in Benue State has dismissed reports alleging that Mobile Police personnel were withdrawn from Ayilamo community in Logo Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Orchia Aondogwu, the report was described as unfounded and baseless. He stated that Mobile Police personnel remained deployed in Ayilamo alongside the Divisional Police team and other tactical units.

Aondogwu also said additional military personnel had been deployed to reinforce security in the area, urging the public to disregard the report.

However, the traditional ruler of Ayilamo, Mue Ter, Chief Torkoer Samuel, contradicted the police account. He claimed that the Mobile Police personnel left the community on Wednesday with their equipment and Armoured Personnel Carriers.

The conflicting accounts have raised questions about the current security situation in Ayilamo and the extent of military presence in the community.
