Quick Summary:
The Nigeria Police Force in Jigawa State cautions politicians and youths against election-related offences, urging peaceful conduct and community cooperation ahead of upcoming polls.

The Nigeria Police Force in Jigawa State has warned politicians and youths against engaging in election-related offences capable of undermining democratic processes and public peace.

The warning was contained in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, and made available to journalists.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, Haruna Alaba Yahaya, issued the caution during a familiarisation tour and stakeholders’ engagement across the Hadejia Emirate over the weekend.

Commissioner Cautions Against Political Violence

Yahaya warned against political violence, ballot snatching, vote-buying, hate speech, unlawful campaigns, and destruction of campaign materials, describing such acts as serious threats to peace and stability.

He explained that the visit was in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, aimed at strengthening community policing and enhancing security collaboration across local communities.

Engagement With Traditional And Local Leaders

During a visit to the Chairman of the Council of Chiefs and Emir of Hadejia, Abubakar Adamu Maje, the commissioner discussed prevailing security challenges and called for sustained synergy between traditional institutions and security agencies.

He commended the Emir for his support to the police and other security agencies in maintaining peace and order within the emirate.

The commissioner also met with local government chairmen across the Hadejia Emirate, including at the Hadejia and Kafin Hausa secretariats, where discussions focused on security concerns and preventive measures.

Community Policing And Intelligence Sharing

Yahaya further engaged community leaders, youth groups, religious leaders, vigilante members, and other stakeholders on issues affecting peace and security in the region.

He urged residents to support security agencies through credible intelligence sharing and active participation in community policing initiatives.

During a visit to Galauceme Village in Miga Local Government Area, following a recent breach of peace, the commissioner advised residents to embrace peaceful coexistence and resolve conflicts lawfully.

Broader Security Concerns

Other issues discussed during the engagements included homicide, mob action, rape, drug abuse, farmers-herders conflict, traffic offences, illegal deforestation, and youth violence.

The command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property across Jigawa State and assured residents of sustained efforts to combat all forms of criminality.

The Nigeria Police Command in Benue State has dismissed reports alleging that Mobile Police personnel were withdrawn from Ayilamo community in Logo Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Orchia Aondogwu, the report was described as unfounded and baseless. He stated that Mobile Police personnel remained deployed in Ayilamo alongside the Divisional Police team and other tactical units.

Aondogwu also said additional military personnel had been deployed to reinforce security in the area, urging the public to disregard the report.

However, the traditional ruler of Ayilamo, Mue Ter, Chief Torkoer Samuel, contradicted the police account. He claimed that the Mobile Police personnel left the community on Wednesday with their equipment and Armoured Personnel Carriers.

The conflicting accounts have raised questions about the current security situation in Ayilamo and the extent of military presence in the community.
