In a decisive move to combat cultism and related criminal activities, the Edo State Government has launched a major operation targeting suspected cult leaders and their infrastructure. The operation, dubbed “Operation Flush Out Cultists and Kidnappers,” has resulted in the sealing of multiple properties linked to cult activities and the declaration of key figures as wanted individuals.
The crackdown was triggered by two significant events: the discovery of a hidden shrine in the Egbaen community and a violent clash between rival cult groups in Evboyare that resulted in a fatality. Acting on intelligence reports, security forces raided a residence in Egbaen, uncovering a secluded shrine containing items believed to be used for initiation rituals and other clandestine activities. The property was immediately sealed.
Simultaneously, authorities responded to a deadly confrontation in Evboyare between the Eiye and Maphite confraternities. The residence of Felix Aigbedion, alleged to be a leader within the Maphite group, was sealed after intelligence linked him to the violence. Aigbedion has been declared wanted by the authorities.

The operation in Evboyare revealed the extent of the violence, with homes and vehicles damaged, and spent cartridges scattered throughout the community. Two locally made firearms were recovered from a poultry house, believed to be used as an armory by the cultists.

Idemudia Noah, coordinator of the operation, emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to eradicating cultism and related crimes from Edo State. He stated that the sealing of properties linked to suspected cult leaders is a clear message that such activities will no longer be tolerated. Investigations have also uncovered evidence of extortion during initiation processes, with victims being forced to transfer money to cultists. The police have been fully briefed and are pursuing prosecutions.

The Edo State Government has issued a strong warning to cultists, urging them to renounce their activities or leave the state. The government has vowed to use the full force of the law against anyone who persists in engaging in cult-related activities, emphasizing its commitment to ensuring peace, stability, and a safe environment for all residents. This operation signals a renewed effort by the Edo State Government to tackle the root causes of cultism and restore security to affected communities.
