Quick Summary:
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu calls for robust civic participation and institutional integrity to sustain Nigeria’s democracy and drive national development.

In an exclusive address to the nation, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has issued a compelling call to action, urging Nigerians to embrace civic engagement as the cornerstone of the country’s future prosperity.

His message, rooted in the ethos of sustainable national development, transcends political rhetoric and focuses on the machinery of governance and institution-building as the true foundation of progress.

The Imperative of Institutional Fortitude

Speaking on the durability of Nigeria’s democratic framework, Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the nation’s over 25 years of uninterrupted civilian rule must be actively nurtured by its citizens.

He asserted that the strength of Nigeria’s democracy lies not only in its leadership but in the resilience and integrity of its institutions.

According to the Governor, public service recognition should serve as a reminder of the responsibilities of civic participation, reinforcing the idea that collective commitment is the engine of national unity and progress.

A Vision of Transparent Governance

Sanwo-Olu’s message aligns with his broader vision of transparent and accountable governance.

He advocates for a governance model anchored on transparency, effective leadership, and institutional fortitude, describing these as non-negotiable prerequisites for a stable economy and the equitable distribution of the dividends of democracy.

The Governor reiterated that good governance must be measurable through impact, ensuring that every citizen benefits from the nation’s democratic gains.

Navigating Challenges with Unity

Acknowledging Nigeria’s complex challenges—from insecurity to economic instability—Sanwo-Olu called for a unified national response rooted in dialogue, mutual respect, and factual discourse.

He stressed that national cohesion is essential to overcoming shared obstacles, urging citizens to rise above divisions and focus on collective progress.

According to him, unity of purpose remains the most powerful tool for navigating the nation’s current realities and achieving sustainable growth.

The Path Forward

Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed optimism that Nigeria’s democracy grows stronger each time citizens uphold values of integrity, accountability, and service.

He urged Nigerians to commit to building stronger, more transparent institutions, emphasizing that nation-building is a shared responsibility that extends beyond government.

Sanwo-Olu’s message encapsulates a renewed vision of participatory governance, where citizens and institutions work in synergy to secure Nigeria’s trajectory toward stability, prosperity, and inclusive development.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Orchia Aondogwu, the report was described as unfounded and baseless. He stated that Mobile Police personnel remained deployed in Ayilamo alongside the Divisional Police team and other tactical units.
