Nigerian activist Martins Vincent Otse, known as Verydarkman, has voiced strong criticism regarding the public and institutional response to the death of Ruth Otabor, sister of reality TV star Phyna. Ruth Otabor passed away on August 31, 2025, from injuries sustained in an accident involving a Dangote truck in Auchi, Edo State.

Verydarkman highlighted the perceived silence during the 19 days Ruth spent in the hospital following the accident. In a recent Instagram post, he questioned why the situation garnered minimal attention until after her death. He suggested that earlier public awareness might have prompted a more urgent response from the Dangote Group.

The activist directly addressed both the Nigerian government and the Dangote Group, condemning the alleged employment of an unlicensed driver. He argued that the lack of accountability exemplified a systemic failure, indicating a disregard for the well-being of ordinary citizens by both government institutions and influential corporations.

Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has described Chinua Achebe’s 1958 novel, Things Fall Apart, as the greatest African book ever written.

Speaking in a recent interview, Edochie said the novel’s enduring popularity stems from its authentic portrayal of African life and history. He noted that although several African writers have since explored similar themes, none has matched the strength and influence of Achebe’s work.

Edochie urged African writers and creatives to tell their own stories, describing this as their greatest advantage on the global stage. He also expressed concern that foreign cultural influences were overshadowing African talent and identity.

Reflecting on his own experience, the actor recalled being given Western names such as Elvis Presley and John Wayne before choosing the culturally significant name “Uwadiegwu.”
