The development follows the resignation of the Chief of Staff, Government House, Hassan Gamawa, and six commissioners, who stepped down to pursue political ambitions.

New Supervisory Assignments

To fill the resulting vacancies, Governor Mohammed ordered the immediate deployment and reassignment of some cabinet members to supervise the affected ministries and offices pending the appointment of substantive replacements.

According to the directive:

  • Hashimu Yakubu, Principal Private Secretary (PPS), will supervise the Office of the Chief of Staff, Government House.
  • Dr. Mohammed Lawal R/Zayam has been deployed to the Ministry of Power, Science and Technology.
  • Hassan Usman El-Yakub (SAN), Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, will oversee the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
  • Usman Usman Shehu, Commissioner for Information and Communication, will supervise the Ministry of Water Resources.
  • Rt. Hon. Danlami Ahmed Kawule, Commissioner for Housing and Environment, will oversee the Ministry of Rural Development and Special Duties.
  • Amina Muhammad Katagum, Commissioner for Budget, Economic Planning and Multilateral Coordination, will supervise the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.
  • Mohammed Sadiq Shira, Commissioner for Cooperatives and SMEs, will oversee the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development.
  • DIG Sani Mohammed (rtd.), Chief Security Adviser to the Governor, will supervise the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs.

Governor’s Directive

Governor Mohammed commended the outgoing officials for their service and wished them success in their future endeavours.

He urged the newly assigned members to take full responsibility for their roles and apply their experience to ensure effective governance and continuity.

The governor further directed them to work closely with Permanent Secretaries in managing the affairs of the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) under their supervision.

Nigerian military personnel have successfully rescued the wife of a retired general within 24 hours of her abduction.

The Nigerian Army has successfully rescued Mrs. Adonkie, wife of retired Brigadier General Basil Adonkie, within 24 hours of her abduction from her Federal Capital Territory residence. This swift and decisive action was detailed in a press statement released on the Nigerian Army’s official Facebook page on Thursday, September 3, 2026.

According to the statement, the rescue operation was launched after Mrs. Adonkie was kidnapped on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. Troops from the Guards Brigade and Army Headquarters Garrison, acting on credible intelligence, swiftly mobilized. Their coordinated efforts led them through the Aco Estate–Goza Community axis, where they engaged the kidnappers. The pressure exerted by the troops forced the abductors to abandon their victim and flee into the surrounding bushes.

Mrs. Adonkie was subsequently found and rescued at Angwan Sabo Village. Following the rescue, troops intensified their pursuit along the Aco Estate-Angwan Sayawa axis, deploying additional forces to block potential escape routes.

The operation continued to yield results on Wednesday, September 2, when troops intercepted two suspected members of the kidnapping syndicate near Gaube Village in the Kuje Area Council of the FCT. This follow-up operation also led to the recovery of significant weaponry, including an AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, and 19 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.

The Nigerian Army has confirmed that clearance and tracking operations are ongoing across the area to apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate. The Army further assured the public of their continued collaboration with other security agencies to sustain intelligence-driven joint operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and enhancing security throughout the FCT and its environs.
