The Deputy Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Imo State, Ugochimereze Chinedu Asuzu, has died after reportedly slumping in the early hours of Wednesday.
His death was confirmed in a statement by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, MacDonald Amadi, who described the incident as a big loss to the ADC and Nigerian society.
Life and Contributions
Asuzu, a native of Umuma Isiaku in Ideato South Local Government Area, was widely respected for his cultural, intellectual, and political engagements.
He was the convener of Ikoro Ndigbo and the founder of Igbo Intelligentsia Renaissance, a platform dedicated to cultural renewal and intellectual discourse. He also served as the national leader of I Stand With ADC, a coalition support group promoting democratic participation.
Until his death, Asuzu held degrees in Theology and Political Science and was pursuing a doctoral degree. He was a theologian, entrepreneur, cultural advocate, writer, public affairs analyst, and visiting lecturer.
ADC’s Tribute
In its statement, the ADC described Asuzu as a loving husband, devoted father, and mentor who inspired many across both religious and secular circles.
Legacy
Asuzu’s death leaves a vacuum in the ADC and among groups advocating for cultural identity, intellectual engagement, and democratic participation in Nigeria. His contributions to political thought and cultural advocacy are expected to remain a reference point for many within and outside the party.
