ADCCivilServiceAlert2026 as the African Democratic Congress alleges that civil servants are being pressured to register for the APC under its e-registration drive, calling it political coercion and a violation of rights.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of coercing Nigerian civil servants into registering for its ongoing e-registration exercise, describing the move as a gross violation of democratic and human rights principles.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said it had received consistent reports nationwide alleging that public servants are being pressured to register for the ruling party as a condition for job security, promotions, or continued access to their livelihoods.
“State-Sponsored Conscription”
The ADC condemned the alleged practice as unacceptable in a democracy, warning that forcing citizens to join a political party violates the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which guarantees freedom of thought, conscience, and association.
The party described the APC’s e-registration as “economic coercion and forced political membership,” likening it to state-sponsored conscription rather than genuine political mobilisation.
Threat to Civil Service Neutrality
The ADC warned that the alleged coercion undermines the neutrality and professionalism of the Nigerian civil service, which is constitutionally expected to remain non-partisan and loyal to the state, not to any political party.
It argued that turning civil servants into partisan tools erodes institutional credibility and public trust in governance.
The party said inflated membership figures achieved through intimidation may serve propaganda purposes but cannot mask public discontent over economic hardship, insecurity, and declining confidence in government.
Call for Oversight and Accountability
The ADC urged the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), labour unions, civil society organisations, and the international community to monitor the situation closely, warning that it could amount to abuse of power and violations of data privacy and human rights.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to democratic freedom, transparency, and citizen choice, insisting that political participation must remain voluntary and free from coercion.
