In a significant development within the Nigerian entertainment landscape, artist Owodunni Ibrahim, known professionally as Primeboy, has initiated legal action against the Nigerian Police Force, alleging an infringement of his fundamental human rights. This lawsuit stems from events following the tragic death of his colleague, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly referred to as Mohbad.

The controversy began in 2023 when the Nigerian Police declared Primeboy wanted due to his failure to respond to an invitation related to the investigation into Mohbad’s untimely demise. In a statement released to Punch on Thursday, Primeboy’s attorney, Akinpelu Ogunbona, confirmed that they seek to have the artist’s name removed from the wanted list, among other legal remedies.

The complaint was formally lodged with the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on October 11, 2023. Primeboy’s legal team argues that the issuance of a special police gazette declaring him wanted constitutes a violation of his right to dignity and respect as enshrined in human rights laws.

Following the police’s declaration, Primeboy promptly surrendered to authorities, showcasing his willingness to cooperate with the investigation. However, the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death remain highly contentious, fueling public debate and scrutiny on social media platforms.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the case highlights pressing concerns regarding the treatment of individuals involved in police investigations and the preservation of their civil rights in Nigeria.
