Quick Summary:
BayelsaIndustrialPower2025 as Governor Douye Diri unveils plans for a 60-megawatt power plant to deliver 24-hour electricity by December 2025, positioning Bayelsa as a rising industrial hub in Nigeria.

Yenagoa, Bayelsa State – Bayelsa State is setting its sights on becoming a major industrial hub in Nigeria, with Governor Douye Diri announcing a bold plan to provide 24-hour power supply by December 2025 through a 60-megawatt independent power plant. The initiative, unveiled during the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) Bayelsa/Rivers Branch Annual General Meeting, aims to tackle one of the biggest obstacles to manufacturing growth in the region — unreliable electricity.

Powering Industrial Transformation

Governor Diri reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a business-friendly environment, emphasizing infrastructure developmenttechnological security systems, and strategic partnerships with global and local investors.

He cited collaborations with the Dubai-based Jampur Group, the China Civil Engineering and Construction Corporation (CCECC), and Nigerian industrial giants such as Dangote Group and Innoson Motors as key drivers of investor confidence in Bayelsa’s emerging industrial landscape.

MAN’s Call for Regional Industrialization

Francis Meshioye, President of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), urged Niger Delta governors to prioritize manufacturing as a catalyst for economic growth and regional stability.

He outlined four key focus areas for sustainable industrialization:

  • Infrastructure development
  • Supportive policy frameworks
  • Skills development
  • Sustainability initiatives

Meshioye also encouraged manufacturers in Bayelsa and Rivers States to explore opportunities in the blue economy, particularly through investments in maritime infrastructure and coastal industries that can diversify the region’s economic base.

Local Industry Perspective

Vincent Okuku, Chairman of the MAN Bayelsa/Rivers Branch, commended the state government for progress in infrastructuresecurity, and investment promotion. He praised Diri’s power supply initiative and landmark projects such as the State Secretariat Complex and the 25,000-capacity stadium, describing them as symbols of Bayelsa’s transformation.

However, Okuku also identified persistent challenges facing manufacturers, including:

  • High energy costs
  • Unreliable electricity supply
  • Inadequate transport infrastructure
  • Multiple taxation

These issues, he said, continue to undermine the competitiveness of local industries.

Path Forward: Collaboration and Innovation

To overcome these hurdles, Okuku called for:

  • Stronger public-private dialogue to align government policies with industry needs.
  • Improved power infrastructure to ensure stable energy for production.
  • Tax harmonization to reduce the burden on manufacturers.
  • Continued investment in roads, ports, and logistics to enhance supply chain efficiency.

He further urged the state to leverage the blue economy, harnessing maritime resources and coastal industries to drive job creation and industrial expansion.

Okuku also appealed to the government to support MAN’s operations by establishing a permanent office in Yenagoa and providing a vehicle for outreach to manufacturers across the state.

Toward a Sustainable Industrial Future

Bayelsa’s 24/7 power initiative represents a strategic shift toward industrial self-reliance, with the potential to attract investors, create jobs, and strengthen the state’s economic base.

If successfully implemented, the project could position Bayelsa as a model for energy-driven industrialization in the Niger Delta and beyond.
