Quick Summary:
The African Democratic Congress slams FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over his alleged declaration of war on anti-Tinubu candidates, calling the statement irresponsible and a threat to democracy.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his reported declaration of war against anti-Tinubu candidates ahead of the February 21, 2026 elections.
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party described Wike’s remarks as irresponsible, dangerous, and inflammatory, warning that such rhetoric could further destabilize the country’s fragile political climate.
“Power Belongs to the People”
The ADC said Wike’s comments were deeply troubling, especially at a time when Nigerians are grappling with economic hardship, insecurity, and political distrust.
The ADC reminded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and other government officials that Nigerians cannot be bullied or pressured into submission.
ADC Warns Against Intimidation of Voters
The party argued that any attempt to threaten or coerce voters only exposes fear and insecurity within the ruling party.
The ADC vowed to resist any attempt to subvert the will of Nigerians, pledging to mobilize democratic institutions, civil society partners, and citizens to defend the sanctity of the ballot.
“No Declaration of War Can Silence the Electorate”
The ADC reaffirmed that no political pressure or declaration of war would override the voice of the electorate in the upcoming February 21 polls.
The party urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and united, insisting that democracy must prevail despite attempts to intimidate or manipulate the process.
