This dynasty, synonymous with the Adamawa Emirate, a prominent first-class kingdom and pivotal component of Adamawa State’s Council of Chiefs, has significantly contributed to Nigeria’s evolution since its establishment in 1809.

The Royal Historians Foundation of Nigeria is collaborating with the Adamawa Emirate Council to spearhead this initiative. The inauguration, held at the Lamido’s palace in Yola, saw the Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, assume the role of steering committee chairman and Grand Patron of the Foundation, pledging unwavering dedication to the project.

Planned activities include a book launch detailing the history of the Fombina Dynasty, celebrations marking the Lamido’s Crystal Jubilee, a seminar examining 19th-century scholarly works, a museum exhibition, and a traditional horse racing competition. Nollywood actress Mary Njoku has recently ignited a debate regarding the necessity of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination for university admissions in Nigeria. While JAMB has admitted to errors and announced retakes for affected candidates, Njoku’s questioning highlights a deeper concern regarding the redundancy and potential inefficiencies within the current university admission process. The actress’s comments add fuel to an existing debate about the effectiveness and fairness of the JAMB examination in evaluating a student’s readiness for tertiary education.
