Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has commissioned the 5.5-kilometre Elega–Miliki–Saje–Bode-Olude–Alhaji Sugar Road and announced plans to reconstruct the Ago-Odo–Lafenwa Road in Abeokuta.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, which cuts across Abeokuta North and Abeokuta South Local Government Areas, Abiodun said the project reflects his administration’s commitment to improving road infrastructure and stimulating economic activities across the state.
Reconstruction Of Ago-Odo–Lafenwa Road
The governor described the Ago-Odo–Lafenwa Road as one of the abandoned projects inherited by his administration. He said its reconstruction would enhance connectivity and boost commerce within the axis.
He also revealed plans to construct a one-kilometre link road and build a bridge connecting the area to Lafenwa, following requests from community leaders and the Alake of Egbaland.
Elega–Saje Corridor Boosting Local Economy
Abiodun noted that the newly completed Elega–Saje corridor has already begun to improve mobility and increase commercial activities, especially at night.
To further support businesses and enhance security, he announced that solar streetlights would be installed along the road.
26 Roads Ready For Commissioning
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, Abiodun disclosed that 26 roads are ready for commissioning, with plans to inaugurate at least one road weekly in the coming months.
He cited the Car Wash–Adatan Road, nearing completion, as further evidence of his government’s resolve to deliver on its promises.
Tourism And Economic Growth
On tourism, the governor revealed that the refurbished Olumo Rock Tourist Centre is attracting international attention, with the City of Milan, Italy, expressing interest in collaboration.
He said the concessioned facility has seen its revenue rise from ₦3 million annually to about ₦10 million weekly, underscoring the success of the state’s tourism revitalisation efforts.
Abiodun emphasised that peace and political stability remain essential for sustainable socio-economic development, noting that his administration has maintained a stable environment while implementing its development agenda.
Stakeholders Commend Government Efforts
The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, said the new road would boost economic activities and urged residents to take ownership of the project.
Community leaders, including the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, commended the governor for his commitment to durable infrastructure and the visible transformation across the state.
They also praised ongoing projects such as the Car Wash–Adatan Road, expressing confidence that the administration’s efforts would drive economic growth and improve living standards.
