In a notable legal outcome, popular British rapper Stormzy has been sentenced to a nine-month driving ban by the Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court. This ruling came after an off-duty police officer observed him using a mobile phone while operating his Rolls-Royce in London.

The incident took place on March 7, 2024, and Stormzy later pleaded guilty through a letter submitted to the court. District Judge Andrew Sweet expressed his concern regarding Stormzy’s driving history, describing it as “not good.” The judge characterized the rapper’s actions as “dangerous and irresponsible,” reinforcing the need for stringent adherence to road safety regulations.

In addition to the driving ban, Stormzy was fined £2,010 (approximately $2,498) and received six additional penalty points on his licence. It is noteworthy that prior to this incident, he already had six points for a previous speeding violation. Under UK law, a driver can face disqualification after accumulating 12 or more penalty points within a three-year period.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the legal repercussions of reckless driving and the importance of responsible behaviour behind the wheel.

Dangote Refinery has announced a further reduction in the ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), bringing it down to N835 per litre from the previous N865. This N30 decrease, communicated to customers via notice on Wednesday, follows a reduction to N865 just six days prior.

This adjustment is expected to translate to lower retail prices at partner stations, such as MRS, with potential reductions from N940 per litre anticipated.

The price reduction coincides with regulatory approval for the importation of 117,000 metric tonnes of petrol between April 8th and 16th, 2025. However, industry analysts, including the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association (IPMAN), caution against expecting a drastic price crash due to demand/supply dynamics and foreign exchange fluctuations, even with the renewal of the naira-for-crude deal.
