During an Instagram video, Okri shared her decision to discontinue wearing wigs, citing her belief that some human hairs are sacrifices to deities, demons, and unknown gods.
Okri explained that in various regions of Asia, women offer their hair at temples as a means of purification, aiming to rid themselves of bad luck and poverty. This ceremonial practice is believed to facilitate a fresh start in life. However, the hair, once sacrificed, is often sold to large vendors and markets, including well-known platforms such as Alibaba and Ali Express.
The singer expressed concern that black women, who purchase these extensions for substantial amounts, may unknowingly adorn themselves with what she perceives as “someone else’s bad luck.” Okri emphasized that regardless of personal beliefs, the spiritual origins of these hairs conflict with her Christian faith, which views such practices through a different lens.
Natalie Okri, who rose to prominence after her performance on Britain’s Got Talent in 2009, highlights a critical intersection of culture, spirituality, and consumerism in her remarks. The “Chaos in the Rings” event saw Portable declared the winner after Speed Darlington sustained an arm injury during the first round and subsequently forfeited the second.
Portable announced the substantial gift on his Instagram story, directly attributing it to Burna Boy, who has publicly feuded with Speed Darlington in the past. The gesture suggests a pointed celebration of Portable’s triumph and underscores the ongoing rivalry within the Nigerian music scene.
