It is with profound sorrow that we report the passing of Wesley Chibambo, affectionately known as Dandy Krazy, one of Zambia’s most cherished musicians. The 47-year-old artist tragically lost his life in a road accident on New Year’s Eve while traveling in the Kapiri Mposhi region. The collision, involving his vehicle, a truck, and another car, resulted in three fatalities at the scene. Despite immediate medical attention and emergency surgery at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka, Dandy Krazy succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Thursday.

President Hakainde Hichilema led a wave of tributes, celebrating Dandy Krazy as an “extraordinary talent” whose music transcended boundaries and united people. In a heartfelt message on Facebook, the President acknowledged the profound impact of the artist’s work on Zambian society.

The musician’s daughter, Comfort, expressed her grief in a moving tribute, marking the loss of her father on the birthday of her sister, Shanice. Her words reflected the deep love and admiration they held for Dandy Krazy, emphasizing the pain of his absence.

Dandy Krazy was not only known for his musical prowess but also for his incisive political commentary. His 2011 hit “Donchi Kubeba” played a pivotal role in the Patriotic Front’s electoral victory, ending a long-standing political era in Zambia. His contributions were recognized by then-President Michael Sata, who honored him with the Grand Commander of the Order of Freedom.

His discography, featuring beloved tracks such as “Chintelelwe” and collaborations like “Chipuba Chandi” and “Temperature,” showcases a diverse and impactful career. Lawyer and politician Sakwiba Sikota aptly compared Dandy Krazy’s influence to that of global icons like Bob Marley and Nina Simone, highlighting his significance in the Zambian music landscape.

In light of this tragedy, the government has pledged to assist with funeral expenses for Dandy Krazy and the other victims of the accident. His legacy, characterized by music that entertained, inspired, and united, will forever remain a vital part of Zambia’s cultural heritage. As the nation mourns, Dandy Krazy’s spirit will undoubtedly continue to resonate in the hearts of many.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has firmly rejected a reported proposal from the United States suggesting the cession of Crimea to Russia. Speaking in South Africa, Zelenskyy reiterated Ukraine’s unwavering stance on the peninsula, emphasizing that such a concession is incompatible with Ukrainian law and its constitution, which designates Crimea as an integral part of Ukraine.

Zelenskyy’s statement follows criticism from former President Trump, who has accused the Ukrainian leader of intransigence in negotiating a peace settlement. The timing also coincides with a recent escalation of hostilities, including deadly Russian strikes on Kyiv that prompted Zelenskyy to cut short his African tour.

Addressing the ongoing conflict, Zelenskyy lamented the lack of international pressure on Russia to pursue a peaceful resolution, emphasizing the devastating toll on Ukrainian civilians. He underscored Ukraine’s willingness to engage in negotiations within the bounds of its legal and constitutional framework. The future of Crimea remains a key point of contention, highlighting the complex challenges in achieving a lasting peace.

Recent judicial actions have curtailed several initiatives advanced by President Trump through executive orders. Federal judges intervened on Thursday, specifically targeting aspects related to voting, immigration, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in education.

Notably, a U.S. District Judge blocked the administration’s effort to unilaterally add a proof-of-citizenship requirement to the federal voter registration form. This stemmed from a March 25th executive order challenged by the Democratic party, who argued the President lacks the authority to dictate federal election regulations. Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly sided with the plaintiffs, effectively halting a provision compelling federal agencies to assess citizenship status before offering voter registration opportunities at public assistance agencies. These legal challenges underscore the ongoing checks and balances within the American system, limiting the executive branch’s unilateral power.
